Red Wine Spritzer
Happy Hour: 4.6/5
What’s cheeky, sexy, and a garnish in almost every cocktail? Hint: It’s a cherry. That’s the sign you gotta look for when wandering around the Historic Core in DTLA and if you’re not looking for this hidden gem you might miss it. Bar Franca may only be 5 months old, but the drinks have been a favorite of locals and those in the industry since day one. So when it was made known that their Happy Hour was debuting, we had to visit. Check out what we drank at our new favorite local joint where the only theme is - quality. Cheers!
White Wine Spritzer
Alright red wine drinkers, don’t think we forgot you! Our drink of the week today is an ode to Spain, the country that has taken red wine spritzers to a whole new level. Get to know a slightly similar history than it’s white counterpart, how to make it, and what you absolutely shouldn’t buy in it’s place. Cheers!
What is Kir?
Our first Drink of the Week for 2019 is in honor of those of you who are giving it your all to stick to your NYE resolution of feeling good and looking even better. A White Wine Spritzer is the perfect drink to keep the calories, sugars, and alcohol content at bay. Plus, it’s super easy to make. Cheers!
If you’ve ever had proper hors-d'oeuvres at an aperitif hour or French dinner party- you’ve more than likely had no choice in the drink pairing. That drink is a Kir Royale and though you may have heard of it you’d be surprised to learn Kir has it’s very own fascinating story. We dove deep into this iconic wine-liqueur with Nazi resisting roots, cheers to learning!
What is Vermouth?
It’s that wonderful time of the year where holiday beverages are making splashes and a big way! Restaurants and bars are adapting to the December seasonal changes and are showcasing some classics! Today, we’re teaching you how to make Mulled Wine, all about where the wild idea of hot wine came from, and more. Cheers!
National White Wine Day
Welcome to another week of learning! Today we are diving into the world of vermouth. Dry, sweet, rose, red, and white- with so many variations and so many uses, the amount of information is overwhelming! We found the origins, history, and clarifications to a lot of common misconceptions. Check it out!
Pour Haus Wine Bar
Hello again! Did you follow our wine coverage back in May? First time reader? Either way we’re sure you want to hear all about National White Wine day! Let’s go!
Garçons de Cafe
Happy Hour: 4.7/5
We crossed over to the Arts District in DTLA for our last wine edition review. Pour Haus wine bar has a Happy Hour that deserves your attention. The neighborhood favorite built solely on the love and word of mouth from regulars is almost too good a place to share, but thanks to owner Lorena we are telling you all about it. Read on to see why we loved it, what we ate, and how the quality of wines here is unmatched. Cheers!
What is bubbly?
Overall Score: 5/5
HH Score: 4.8/5
Inside the Spring Arcade building is DTLA’s very own authentic French wine bar, Garçons de Cafe. The favorite for those mature locals looking to escape the craziness of the historic core. Filled from ceiling to floor with fine French wines, this is heaven for Francophiles and those who know how to appreciate quality, variety, and simplicity. We stopped by for their daily Happy Hour, enjoyed ourselves some cheese and meat plates, all the while getting to know all about our favorite wine bar. Cheers!
Happy Memorial Day! Continuing with our wine discussions it’s a great time to bring up “the bubbly.” Sparkling wines that is. Whether you’re toasting your holiday with Champagne from France, Spanish Cava or just some budget-friendly sparkling white from wherever, we’ve got you covered with info on this effervescent treat.
What is Rosé Wine?
Overall Score: 4.5/5
Happy Hour Score: 4.8/5
We visited Baldoria for our Wine Month celebrations in Los Angeles. The hip local neighborhood spot that never has the same menu is a favorite among locals. They have a ton of options for all liquids and an extensive food and wine menu that pairs well in many different ways. They’re open for lunch, dinner, and brunch PLUS a late night Happy Hour on the weekends, need we say more?
Rosé. It’s a very beautiful word for a very beautiful wine. If you’re Portuguese or Spanish it’s Rosado, or for the Italians, Rosato. Rosé’s possibilities don’t end with different pronunciations either.
